Travel Green – A Guide On How To Travel Eco-Friendly
When you travel to Jamaica you’ll be amazed by the beauty of nature. And this nature needs to be protected! Due to the low level of economic development Jamaica has – until now – not been a good example in protecting its environment but this should not stop you from travelling eco-friendly.
During dry season, Jamaica has to deal with serious water scarcity. Guest houses will do everything they can to assure water is running for you. Just be conscious and try to limit your water consumption as much as possible. When you’re in the mountains do as locals do and take your bath in the river (ideally with natural soap), it doesn’t get any more natural than that! And it’s so refreshing!
Try to shop package free. Bring your own reusable, durable bags to the market. When you shop at the supermarket, kindly ask the staff to put the groceries in your bag or basket. Even though it is tempting to leave worn-out shoes or empty shampoo bottles behind in order to create more space in your backpack, we recommend you to still take it with you back home where waste is not simply thrown on a landfill or burned but seperated and recycled.
Instead of taking your rental car everywhere you go, consider traveling with local transportation such as coaster buses and route taxis. That is was traveling locally is all about and it will make you safe money, too!
These are some examples of what you can do to travel eco-friendly. Do you know other ways to keep it green? Let us know in the comments and we will add them to the article!
