This week the cruise industry has been abuzz with more new ships on the horizon, as well as some new renovations to keep in mind.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the name for its newest upcoming ship: the Carnival Horizon

The second in the line’s new Vista class, the Carnival Horizon is slated for delivery in March 2018. When it sets sail the new ship will share many of the amenities from the Carnival Vista, including SkyRide, the IMAX Theatre, WaterWorks aqua park, Seuss at Sea program and Alchemy Bar, plus a number of new features as well.

In river news, Crystal River Cruises has announced a change of plans for two of its upcoming new river ships, Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel. Instead of setting sail on the Seine, Rhone and Dordogne Rivers in France, the ships will now be deployed on the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers in Germany and Austria. Crystal said the change was made due to guest feedback on its itineraries in the German and Austrian regions.

The change in deployment means a slight change in design for the new ships, as well. The two ships will be increased in size from 110 meters to 135 meters, the maximum size permissible on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, allowing for the addition of a swimming pool with a sliding glass roof and more of the ship’s larger suites, which range in size up to 759 square feet.

In renovation news, Scenic has announced a redesign of its France-based Space-Ships for the 2017 river cruise season.

The renovations will reduce the guest count to 155, enlarge the ship’s cabins and public areas, and add a private cooking emporium. Additionally, the line will add two new 510 square foot Royal Owners Suites, larger wellness centers and a vitally pool.

The new cooking emporium, Scenic Culinaire, will be a dedicated space offering courses in the culinary traditions of the Rhône, Saône and Bordeaux regions.
