Iconic Sports Venues: Augusta National
The Masters is The Holy Grail of golf and the most anticipated event on the professional circuit. It is the only major tournament that is held at the same venue year in and year out. Augusta National Golf Club is Bobby Jones’ masterpiece and every inch of the course is revered by golf fans. There are so many spots on this course to marvel at, none more talked about than the infamous “Amen Corner.” The short, diabolical par three 12th is considered to be the toughest par three in the world. Hole 13 is a reachable par five and is where Phil Mickelson famously hit his second shot between two trees and off of pinestraw to five feet of the pin. The elevation on hole 10 is dramatic and sets the stage for the back nine. The par three 16th entertains fans during practice rounds as competitors skip balls off the water attempting to land on the green. It is also the site of Tiger Woods’ incredible chip shot which resulted in the ball perched on the lip for a second before dropping in. Hole 18 showcases a narrow daunting teeshot that is the final hurdle before completing one’s round. Attending the Masters at Augusta National is on every golfer’s bucket list.
