“Coming out at the age of 19 in the mid-80’s, which is also around the same time I started working in the travel industry, caused me much fear and anxiety. But staying in the closet simply wasn’t an option for me – I had to be true to myself even though there were some turbulent times.
To me, LGBTQ+ History Month is a time to acknowledge, observe and celebrate the activists and role models who fought for our civil rights and helped make the world a better place. Because of these champions, I am free to be open and honest about my sexual orientation with my family, friends, community and work – AND I was also able to legally marry my cute husband, Danny, in 2014.
I am so grateful to live in a country and in a time where so much progress has been made regarding the LGBTQ+ community, but I also know that there is still a lot of work to do. I feel that it’s important to represent our community publicly and LGBTQ+ History Month provides such an opportunity.”
