09 Dec Caribbean Vacation Experience: Hiking in Dominica
Do you like to hike on your Caribbean Vacation? Are you a nature lover? Then planning a vacation to the Commonwealth of Dominica might be the ideal Caribbean destination for you.
The Caribbean island of Dominica also known as the Nature Island, is home to the region’s first long distance walking trail, Waitukubuli National Trail. This national trail covers over 115 miles of some of the best hiking in the Caribbean, spanning the communities of Scott’s Head in the south, to the Cabrits National Park in the north. Still under development, the park will host 14 trails, four of which have opened to date.
The hiking experience on Dominica is unparalleled as one of the most adventurous ways to experience the diverse topography of the island and take in the local culture. These hiking paths, made for all fitness and skill levels lead you into a variety of Dominica’s National Parks, local communities, farm lands, forest reserves, coastal areas, and the acclaimed Morne Trois Pitons National Park UNESCO natural World Heritage Site.
In an effort to stake its claim as the Caribbean capital for Hiking, Dominica is hosting a national event. Saturday May 4, 2013 will kick off Dominica’s Hike Fest hosted by the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) in partner with some of the region’s most avid hikers.
